Impact Noise vs. Airborne Noise

Noise types are generally divided into two. Impact noise is (Impact Inherent) and airborne noise (Airborne). Other types of noise, such as side noises, are mostly caused by the environment and are problems that can be solved by soundproofing walls and windows.

 

Impact Noise

When someone drops a book or taps their foot, the sound produced is called a knock or impact noise. Impact noise makes direct contact with the ground and is transmitted via the vibration path through the ground structure. Regardless of the last layer of your parquet, tile, marble or granite floor, if an insulation process has not been made under it, these impact-induced sounds will transmit to the lower floor, side walls, columns and beams through vibration. According to the intensity of the impact, there is no reason why this sound should not go to the next-door neighbors from the common wall to the lower and upper floors. Other examples of impact noise can be counted as heel sounds, vibrations occurring in mechanical spaces such as hydrophore, generator, elevator room, boiler room.

 

Airborne Noise

This type of noise is transmitted through the air by sound waves. These are more difficult to control or reduce. Examples include airborne noise, loud conversations, music, crying, and cars honking. Impact noise moves from your neighbor’s floor to your ceiling via direct-conducted vibration connected by beams, while airborne noise is transmitted by air molecules hitting each other. Depending on the intensity of the sound, these sounds create vibrations in the structure. Especially mechanical sounds, bass sounds in music, snare drum, drum room, etc. noise in areas requires both vibration and air-borne sound insulation.
